Young’s Double-Slit Experiment

Theory

Each slit becomes a new source (Huygens’ principle). Maxima occur at $d\sin \theta =m\lambda$. With $d=3$ m and $\lambda \approx 1.36$ m: ${\theta }_1\approx 27°$.

What to observe

• Beyond the barrier, a fan-shaped pattern of maxima and minima.

Try this

• Switch the tank to Average intensity and wait for the fringes.
• Select the barrier and use 1 or 3 slits.
